That's ridiculous. Is there anyway you could get another copy of the book off some other site? Even torrent it?
With your course, is there any way you can communicate with other students doing the same thing? Like do you have a forum online where you guys can chat? Any online course I've ever done had one and it was a great way to see how other people are doing, if and where they're struggling and also for ganging up on stupid lecturers
