I self-injure, I have bipolar, and I have PTSD. I will tell anyone who asks. I also hold a full-time job (yes, in the media), and as part of that job, I read police reports and criminal complaints every day. I encourage you to do the same. Go down to your local police station and ask to see one shift's reports so you know what goes in there. It is *entirely* possible that all the information you are ticked off about was in the police report and gotten legitimately.
TV people, if you ever watch TV news, always sign off with a tag, including their name and station (station IDs are required by the FCC) and usually "stay tuned," since they are, after all, in the business of getting ratings. You might watch TV news for a week as well and find that out too.
Frankly, stigma exists because people don't know the truth about things. Maybe that story was the first time anybody ever heard of SI and is checking it out on the Internet even now. I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's a bad thing, or that you know how the information was gotten, either.
Sorry for interrupting your rant -- I'm done now. There is always more than one side. It pays to keep that in mind before you go jumping people.
