Hello MrsBkr: I am a unworthy student of the Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön. And, in her writings, Ani Pema talks about the "groundlessness" of being... "nothing to hang onto". In other words everything is always changing. There is nothing solid we can grasp... no safe zones... no sanctuaries. The state eastern religions refer to as "enlightenment" is simply achieving the ability to dwell joyfully & with equanimity within this groundless state.
I often read, in comments here on PC, where members write about feeling nothing, feeling empty, being adrift so to speak. And it has occurred to me that this feeling of nothingness is, perhaps, an experience of what is referred to as "enlightenment". It's just that we don't recognize it & we don't know what to do with it. If I'm correct, then that undefinable feeling (or lack thereof) we all have sometimes (the feeling of no feeling) is really an experience of existence as it really is. We just need to learn how to dwell within it.
