Well, they are probably different for everyone, and I think there are different levels for me too. The most common is that something will set me off (make me scared, mad, embarrassed, etc.), and then I will be irritable. Even little things will get to me then. Little things can build up for hours. Then sometimes I will blow up.
I know for sure I am in some kind of emotional flashback (looking back) when I am so emotional that I can't speak, or can speak well, and have a hard time putting what I am feeling or what I need into words.
It is a lot like part way through an argument, when you can't remember what it is about, but you are still sure you are right and need to win.
