Addiction is a demon
That exists in the spine
Waiting impatiently
For your decline
It wants to live
So it will fight
Tempting you
Just in spite
He is a coward
So he will hide
In the root chakra
Deep inside
When you face him
He will say
Do these drugs
And fly away
Leave your pain
To another day
This is how
He leads you astray
By doing drugs
You give him power
Letting him live
For another hour
This demon that thrives
Is a parasite
Living in darkness
Not of light
He is also a virus
That spreads with ease
Affecting our people
Making us freeze
Stuck in one place
Can’t move forward
Ending up
In the psyche ward
He presents himself
When we are young
It’s the first time
We hear his tongue
He says drink this beer
It’s only alcohol
It’ll make you feel
Good and whole
Thank you very much
The demon is pleased
Will that be all?
I’ve been teased
He always wants more
Endless desire
To get his way
He becomes a liar
Scheming for more
Manipulative
These are the traits
That allow him to live
As long as he thrives
We cannot see
Losing touch
With our identity
So we surround ourselves
With those of like-mind
To let us know
We’re not one of a kind
Misery loves company
Feed the demon together
At any time
No matter the weather
Doing this
The demon will stay
Making us think
It’s all okay
The only way out
Is to isolate
And face the demon
At the gate
Open up!
I’m ready to face you
I’ll break down this door
And come right through
You’ve made your last
And final attempt
I hold you in
Full contempt
The demon comes out
His final show
And walks away
Head hanging low
