If you want actual web space, there's free space and pay space. There are better ones than others; don't believe the ones who say "unlimited space." That's crap! If you put enough stuff on their servers, they'll drop you. See The Truth About Unlimited Bandwidth.

One of the best is FutureQuest.net, but they're not cheap. No adult content, if you want to post something like that. If you want a cheaper but good alternative, and one which allows adult content, try DreamHost.com.

That's another thing. You want to read a company's Terms of Service, to see if they're ok with your content. Basically, if you plan to post adult content, you should make sure they allow it. If you don't have anything adult you plan to post, then you should be fine with just about any host.

Some companies have a lot of problems, some are really great. Some packages are better than others.

I get the feeling you're looking for something simple. If you want your own domain name, there are a lot of domain name hosts as well as companies that will give you a free domain name with their packages.

You might want to look at http://www.budgetweb.com/budgetweb/index.html for a list of inexpensive hosts that might meet your needs. You might want to simply start your own blog, where you can post your photos and poetry, and a good site to do that is http://www.wordpress.com/ (it's free). Other free blog sites include http://www.blogger.com/, http://www.blurty.com/ and http://www.livejournal.com/.

Back to web hosting itself. If you want a couple of sources for finding a host, see http://webhosts.thelist.com/ and http://webhosting.resourceindex.com/ . They also provide info on finding the right host for you, and other info.
