Ugh. I hate fleas. I've only ever had 1 bad outbreak and I've had my pets on preventative ever since. It's worth the cost for the preventative to not have to deal with another outbreak.

For the mean time until the exterminator comes use a bug spray on your body containing deet. It will keep them off you. Don't wear white. White socks and pants attract them.

Also go to the vet and get frontline or advantage and treat all of your pets, and continue to treat them every month from now on. Do not buy the stuff at the grocery store for your pet. Some pets have severe reactions to the stuff and it just doesn't work as well. The stuff at the grocery store almost killed one of my cats. he had a reaction, and lost all of his fur and got welts all over his body. $1000 in vet fees later he is fine.
