I do sometimes think I am too materialistic...
When I moved flats earlier this year, I threw out a lot of unnecessary things. I've also sold one or two things. I feel I could still go further though. One thing I refuse to throw out is my books though, even if I have read them & am unlikely to read them again I still like having a full bookshelf.
I think a lot of it has come down to compulsive spending in the past, I tend to be very hedonistic. I'm trying to get into the mind set that I should make full use of the things I have rather than buying new things.
There's really not a lot I can justify buying at the moment. I even started to rent films instead of buying DVDs/digital downloads. I do like collecting films but I have too many... I could certainly sell quite a number of the DVDs I have. I think perhaps I'll limit myself to only buying films which I really really want to own.
In some ways I wish I could literally just pack all my belongings in a suitcase & move just like that. Having no attachments, being a free spirit & making my experiences my life. But at the same time, I've made myself a home & part of that is having belongings, so there is only so much I can cut down on. I certainly want be less materialistic though.
