I had a friend like this in high school. She was empathic and fun to be with when it was just the two of us, but when a guy came around, she would completely change. She would put me down in subtle ways (e.g. "Your teeth look like a vampire's!") and would literally sit in between me and a guy I was interested in.

Needless to say, we haven't talked or hung out much since.
