Hey Lex3113, welcome to PsychCentral.

As far as falling in love with a fictional character goes... It's not all that uncommon and I don't think it's an issue unless it interferes with real relationships. Many movies, books and games are specifically structured to make us identify with and feel emotionally for the characters; why would love be any different? It just means that the character shows traits or qualities that are attractive to you.

At the risk of exposing myself as one, I have to ask, are you at all familiar with otaku culture? Love for fictional characters is fairly common there; it gave rise to the "waifu" meme, where one refers to their favorite female manga or anime character as their "waifu." While it's a silly joke to some, there are plenty of people who have fallen in love with certain characters. I talk from experience; I'm in love with a fictional character, too! Sure it's really embarrassing and not something you'd want to share with acquaintances, but it can also be really comforting sometimes.

And yes, some people have gone completely over the edge. Unless you dump your real girlfriend and start having "romantic" dinners with images of your fictional love, I think you'll be alright!
