Isn't it funny how the same diagnosis has different symptoms and ways in each of us. Does you mom have relaxation techniques that she uses for her self? If so, maybe she can share them with you.
You can always do a google search on relaxation techniques and see if there is anything there you feel comfortable doing. I think the most important and easiest one of all is the slow breathing one. I hope you find some ways to help yourself. I have no doubt you will....as freewill said, you have a wonderful attitude and want to help yourself!
