If it really is mania-related, my best guess is that it falls under the category of grandiosity, as far as perceiving that one can skillfully control other people, and then that "everything is connected" mentality that can make one feel like everything happened for a reason, in this case due to their own clever manipulations. I've read it a few times that mania can present a lot like narcissism in some individuals due to the grandiosity factor.
