I thought of another example of how delicate this subject of nudity is, even in my profession as an art teacher of middle schoolers. I have wished to show educational films about the classical artists such as Michaelangelo or da Vinci, but upon previewing them, I realize I can't do so in this conservative culture here. In the past, having taught for 20 years, when I have done this, I've received objections and lasciviuos comments from students here, and realize it is just one step away from a conference in the principal's office with an irate parent. It seems a shame though, that I can't show a film showing Michaelgelo's "David," or on the life of other great artists. I've tried to explain to students when this sort of topic emerges, that there is a big difference in art showing nudity and pornography.
