Me too.

My "people pleasing" started way back in childhood, and I strongly suspect it was in the interest of one or more of my family members that I be a people pleaser. This has not served me well in life.

Though it can at times be a gift difficult to bear (no pun intended), you are truly gifted and you do truly care.

Was it a matter of "smarts"? Your intelligence is linked to every part of your personality, and exercising your intelligence in ways that might have hurt others - even bullies - was and is foreign to you.

How many times have parents and caregivers raised children to be concerned with what others think and then told them to "just ignore" those same people?

Were a therapist to say that to me, I would want them to clarify what they meant. "What does 'look after me properly' mean - both in theory and practice?"
I'm sorry the meds haven't worked for you. You've given them a decent trial.
