Not for me! I've never seen a director's cut that changed the meaning of the movie like that one.
That's a nasty bit of work to hide Elena's letters! It seemed really artificial to have Alfredo do that. In the original, Toto's lost love is just lost. Because in life...that's just the sad way it happens with first loves. No need to mettle and hide love letters, as done in the director's cut.
