I believe you nailed it, I try not to be too sensitive because I believe being way to sensitive would make things a hindrance.

Imagen, if you will, driving into the sun set without the filtering of sunglasses, you would have a tough time seeing through the glare. In other words empathy to others is like a light turned on for others to walk away from darkness, how sensitive you are determines how bring the light is. If one is way to bright it just becomes hindrance to move in the darkness, think to on coming traffic and the guy coming towards you has his high beams on.
