I went through this as part of my bankruptcy. The accounting service managed my money and there was no charge. They did hand over the entire cheque but I had to account to them for every single penny I spent. I had to do this for a year.

Truth be told I wish I still had to do this. I otherwise do not manage my money very well and once again have debt.

There are agencies and debt specialist that I'm sure could help with this for no charge as well.
