Only I can sign myself into a loan, no matter what the pressure.
"I'm sorry, but I can't" is my preferred way of saying "no". No explanations, no profuse apologies. People ask "why not?" and I give them the broken record technique, "I'm sorry, but I just can't".
Eventually, they get it.
