My boyfriend told his grandmother we are seriously talking about getting married. She apparently said I "need to get a job and me should live together" before we get engaged. She was supposedly very angry. My boyfriend told her she can make suggestions but it is his decision.

I have a college degree, and I'm a graduate student in counseling psychology. I'm working right now as an (unpaid) intern. I'm getting my masters in 5 months.

Any advice on what to say to this woman?
