In a nutshell it is based on the theory that depression and anxiety are caused by giving up one's ability to make decisions in one's life. The idea is to snap your fingers and make a decision to do something, anything. It doesn't matter what. I am not very good at snapping my fingers so I just think Snap! in my head. When I remember to do this it seems to be very positive and productive. One day I said Snap! I'm gonna call my best friend (long distance) and I did. We had a great conversation and she was glad to hear from me. It was a call I had been putting off because I felt like I had nothing good to say. But my friend was just happy to hear from me. Hundreds of little Snaps can add up. I have gotten out of the habit of doing things spontaneously that may result in happiness. I think Snap! is brilliant because it helps us reconnect on so many levels. It's something you have to consciously practice, though, like mindfulness.
