What does your medical doctor say about your weight? Do you have a normal weight for your age and size? Also, do blood tests indicate that you are getting sufficient vitamins and minerals? In short, if your bill of health is good then it just may be that you are on the low side of enjoying eating which, quite frankly, is probably normal.
Unfortunately, being part Italian, I was raised with the axiom "to eat well is to live well" (or something like that!). Family gatherings meant it was time to eat! This was fine when I was a child but now that I am approaching senior citizen-hood, it's a problem as it causes weight gain that I am constantly fighting.
Sometimes eating more is not a source of happiness. The one thing that concerns me is your description of hunger as "superficial." Perhaps the key to enjoying food more would be not what you eat or the quantity of food that you eat but, rather, whether you are eating alone or eating while enjoying the company of others. For many, eating is a social / family thing in addition to required nourishment. Is loneliness an issue? Is dining friends / family what is missing from your diet? Would having company give more purpose to dining?
