Even though DocJohn has answered the OP, he generously let this thread stay open for others to be able to express their thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately, there are strong feelings on this matter and not everyone is going to agree.

It seems what it really comes down to is personal and quite emotional on either side of the coin. The best one can do for themselves is their best self care at this point.
