I was hired to work at a pretty popular shop a few month ago. Now I'm running the place. I have a key and everything.
Last night, I closed by myself for the first time. Well, I noticed that the register was over by around $136. Naturally, I was perplexed and let the owner know. She was confused, too, and decided to deal with it on Monday morning.
I went over to the Walmart to buy some chalk and realized that my wallet was empty.
First thought: "Somebody went to the back of the store, opened my wallet, and stole $138 from me!"
Second thought: "Oh, my God. I bought a $2 coffee at work! Then I put the rest of my money right into the register!" Occam's razor.
So I called my boss and let her know. She said it was okay, but she doesn't understand how I managed to do it. Me neither.
Even though she said she'd deal with it, I'm still freaked out. I feel terrible for screwing it up and can't help but feel that she doesn't believe the money really is mine. That's irrational, but I've been feeling super anxious about it all morning.
