When you are starting lamictal I think that they should expect at least one call about "could this be??". Better that than not. My first time on it I never had a question. The only side effect I had going on was some nasty headaches for a few days. (And because I was in a clinical trial I may have been on it and taken off and then put back on although we were pretty certain I was on the placebo which would have meant that I just went from placebo to open-label lamictal).

Don't worry about calling. Pdocs are pretty used to calls between visits and should be fine with them. A pdoc not ok with calls about meds is a warning sign.
