A lot of people have gotten tremendous help from therapy. If you're feeling very depressed and nothing else is working for you, a therapist can help you figure out what does work. It can be difficult to trust a stranger, but you don't have to go in and spill everything at once. You can just share as much as you feel comfortable sharing. It is very difficult to involuntarily hospitalize someone. Inpatient psych turns people away much more often than it forces people into a padded room.
