Your GP should be able (and willing) to write scrips for your current meds for a month to tide you over. Mine did for 3 months while I was between pdocs. And I agree, trying to find a new one is a major pain. In the area I live in there are just not many choices (like five total) but if I were in a larger area and needed a new one I'd do as much research as I could to try to find a good one. Good luck!
