I do the checking thing too and it's just getting worse the older I get. It started with water faucets and the stove top. Now it includes light switches, fireplace switch, door lock, car lights, car door lock, toilet, my alarm clock, microwave... basically anything that you can activate and de-activate. I know it's based out of fear of fire, theft, being late, floods, etc. But it's maddening!
