Jules, I've been diagnosed bipolar for 22 years now. I only managed to be med free for a couple of those years, and it was a mistake for me to do that. To be a fully functioning member of society, I need a medication cocktail to keep my brain balanced just as a diabetic needs oral meds or insulin.

Each bipolar has to decide what works, but the reality of medications is very strong and somewhat scary too. I wish you the best of luck and I would listen to your pdoc if you're stable. The Tegretol is probably doing more than you know.
