It works really well, so I have started doing that with my bags when shopping. Pick one with nothing breakable in it and swing it back and forth as I walk to force people out of my space. Looks like I am just idly swinging packages when in reality I am semi-deliberately hitting people who cannot ****ing maintain decent personal space.
I'm going in this direction myself. It doesn't matter when I go grocery shopping, Christmas or 6 am or whenever, there is always someone standing in the middle of an aisle blocking the way through while staring into space or yammering on their phone.

And don't get me started on the people who stand right behind you in the checkout line. Do they really think this will gain them anything? It's like drivers riding right on your bumpe to gain maybe one second of time.

Never mind girding the loins. Full plate mail armor and a lance are more like it.
