I'm on 225 mg Effexor and 300 mg Wellbutrin/day and it has been a Godsend to me for the last 4-5 years. The Effexor is stimulating and can make you feel anxious and wired until your body gets used to it. Practically every psych med I've ever taken has created weird physical sensations (especially in combination) for at least the first day or two, sometimes a bit longer. I understand what you mean that it doesn't seem normal--remember the chemicals in these meds have a powerful effect on the brain--it won't always feel this way. Please don't give up on it until your body has had a chance to adjust and you can see what the real effects are going to be.
