I've gotten a number of meds through patient assistance programs for free both when I wasn't insured and since getting Medicare. Medicare makes name brand meds too expensive for me to afford with my income so I request exemptions into the programs by writing a short letter. None has ever denied me. I currently get 4 meds through patient assistance and it has been a lifesaver since I really need each of these meds and couldn't possibly afford it otherwise.

People are often wary of asking for exemptions but the companies seem to be used to it and they don't ask any questions or act at all surprised.

It's a great thing and has made me much more fond of pharmaceutical companies.
