Good job telling them of your concerns. Let them choose the right treatment for you.

As about how do you know if they want to help. Just think about job they chose. They chose a job to treat people with particular issues. If they wanted to do something else that's what they do. That's what they are trained to do and that's what are there for: to deal with mental health concerns of their patients/clients.
