I did the same thing one night, actually! And it worked for me, too! I avoided cutting as well.

I would caution about it for one reason, though. When I did this, I had wanted to SI out of anger at myself, so it became a pretty dangerous technique, too. I don't want to get overly graphic, but this can get out of hand. Then again, I did NOT go deep enough to bleed when I used the pen instead of the razor.

I also wonder about the risk of infection, if it gets out of hand.

But yes, it is an effective way of avoiding cutting, I think!
