I am friends and keep in touch with family of my exhusband as well as family of my ex partner of 9 years. That was their choice and I do like it this way.

If they didn't want to be friends with me then it is what it is. If they don't want to keep in touch with you then it's their choice. If your ex husband wants to keep in touch with your brother then it's commendable.

He has no control over what his family does in terms of them not responding to you. Unless he told them not to.
