Why do you assume all psychiatrist ended up in their profession because they have a desire to help people? There are many reasons why people choose to go to med school, one of them financial. I have a former classmate from school who failed getting into her first two choices of med specialization and ended up doing psychiatry as a compromise. A psychiatrist I have been to said she suffered from mental illness and chose psychiatry as a way to learn more about managing her own issues. Another said he switched areas, after he could not find a job in the area he specialized on. If you are attracted to people who live for helping others, maybe a social worker, a nurse, a therapist / counselor or a teacher matches more your type.
Thanks for this!
