Construction zone is right.... what began as a room cleaning and shuffle has become a total room overhaul. The windows are even out so that I can sand and paint them and replace some broken parts. I gave up trying to keep paint off the yukky old carpet on the floor. I'm thinking cork... I hear that's a good choice these days. See what I mean!! One thing leading to another. I still don't have the pretty yellow paint on the walls. Finally got the paint on the ceiling after a couple of mis-adventures.
I was sanding and patching most of today again. Tomorrow I should be painting the walls and windows and figuring out what to do with the ceiling paint all over the carpet.
Here's how the paint got on the carpet.... first the big blotches that are still there .... I'm using this special roller for the yukky popcorn ceiling. It's a large roller made of thick foam. It's very heavy when soaked full of paint. So heavy in fact that it keeps tipping over and falling off the end of the broom handle I'm using to reach the ceiling. The threading didn't quite match either so that didn't help.
So here I am underneath this big heavy foam roller and it keeps popping off the end of my stick and either lands directly on me, the drop cloth or the one spot of carpet not covered. And when it hits or bounces it splatters all its paint everywhere and leaves a big strip of paint where it lands. After about 5 or 6 of these bombs because I kept failing to secure the roller to the handle... finally went looking for a better broom handle. DAH!!! LOL....By the time I was done painting the ceiling I was covered from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet from walking on the spots where the roller had landed. What a mess.
Amazingly I didn't freak out.... too badly.... too often.... lol. I stuck with it and am going back for more tomorrow. lol. It will be a short day though cuz it's mom's bday. Want to see what that yellow is going to look like though so I'll have to work early and fast tomorrow.
Before I go here's one more story... this happened before the roller stuff... I was getting ready to go up the ladder to paint the edges with a brush... As I was walking I dropped the yogart container full of paint onto the carpet at the open doorway (not covered by the cloth) hitting the hardwood in the hall, the walls, and all over the side of a nearby bucket...
I summoned my son to get me another bucket of soapy water. I pulled the rag from the bucket that was there and started trying to soak up the paint. My son brought me a fresh bucket and I sent him to dump and clean the one I was using that was covered in paint itself. Just then I realized I was dealing with oil based paint... not latex. I was too late to stop my son from dumping and putting the bucket covered with oily paint into the tub.
So there I am with oil based white paint splattered on the hardwood and the walls, a pizza sized blob on the carpet and a royal mess in the tub. Having no turpintine I race to the shed to get some gasoline so that I could start the clean up. After about an hour I actually had all the paint out of the carpet and off the floors and walls. The house smells of gas but there was no evidence of the spill and the bucket and tub were even clean. I carefully refilled the yogart container, carefully reset the drop clothes and painted the edges of the ceiling... without incident... until the roller bombs.
After the roller fell off my broomstick a few times I gave up trying to keep the carpet clean. I figure if I put any more gas on that carpet it'll blow up. Lol.... Cork or a paint remover.... hummm... either way another project delay.... I'm having fun at least.... if you can believe it. lol.
Oh yea... forgot to mention... when I dropped the paint container... who was the first to appear.... the dog of course... he ran right through the oily paint and back out through the rest of the house. Paw prints went on for quite a while..... too much hey. And i'm still here!!!
