Sometimes I feel like I know more about psych meds than my psychiatrist. (For instance, my psychiatrist JUST heard about vyvanse, a med I've known about for a long time. And he had been absolutely refusing to prescribe me anything that even has the remotely remote possibility of causing mania (including SSRIs and SNRIs) for as long as I've been seeing him and then suddenly he prescribes me an amphetamine? Whatever, I'll just go along with it). It doesn't help that every psychiatrist I've had is constantly forgetting which meds I've already been on, and forgetting the names of the meds I'm on currently. I know they have a lot of patients. But the information is RIGHT THERE in my file.

...and I DEFINITELY know more about meds than my therapist. He's just completely clueless. Any time I bring up a med issue that is crossing over into therapy territory he just backs off and says he doesn't know how to help. I would think therapists would have at least a basic understanding of which med classes do what. Or at least know the names of some meds. I guess not...
