i have short term memory problems even without dissociation adding to it, so unless i talk to a person often or they have something that sticks out to me to set them apart from someone else, i am not likely to remember much about them, online or offline.

i had a weird experience though where i was in a chatroom for several months, maybe half a year at that point or longer (don't do well with keeping track of time), and i experienced a severe dissociative episode for several months. when it lessened, i really had no memory of familiar people i had chatted with over months. it was like i had to relearn who they were, yet they remembered me. even now in general, i don't remember much about online conversations. i know i have them, some things may be remembered, but not a lot really is a day or so later.

several things for me affect my memory though, so it's not always about dissociating. if i am tired from not sleeping well, stressed/anxious, or not eating right and/or dehydrated, it also can affect my memory.

i have times where i will forget how to do my work after several years of doing it. it takes a few minutes of looking through things to figure it out again which freaks me out because then i worry i will mess something up. that, i think, is more a dissociative symptom, though not sure why it happens.
I didn't talk to them often that is probably why. Knew them for weeks. It just honestly freaked me out.
