That's because the insurance providers screw over psychiatrists by making it really hard for them to get paid. Instead of dealing with that, a lot of psychiatrists are now cash pay only doctors. So as a result, the pdocs that still take insurance are stupid busy and very hard to get appointments with.

Psychiatrists that don't take insurance are pretty easy to find and get an appointment with quickly though. I pay $160 a visit to see mine. I try really hard to only need to go every 3 months due to cost. Plus side is having his cell #.

It just goes to show how broken mental health care is in the US. So many people who need the care can't get appointments. Someone who is on disability, losing jobs, or run up massive debt can't pay out-of-pocket to see a pdoc. But they may be the ones that need the care the most! Go figure!
