You should not feel guilty for all the things your parents did for you a daily basis. They were parents they were meant to look after you. That what parents do its their job. You did not ask to be born.
It was wrong of them to take out their frustrations on a small child. Selfish.

My father always told me how Very grateful I should be 'All I do for you, you are so lucky' he'd say.

I never felt remotely lucky. And he did f##k all for me.
No child needs to feel grateful for a parent clothing, feeding, caring for them.
Crikey a cat has kits and loves them, she don't expect thanks for the next 100 years!
