I've never been officially diagnosed with low vitamin D, but my gp tells nearly all her patients to take a supplement, since it's so common. I take 1000IUD a day. I noticed as soon as I went on it, a positive impact on my mood, and if I run out and forget to get a new bottle, after a few days I notice my mood dropping.
I've mentioned this to my pdoc, and he said that vitamin D deficiency is a major contributing factor to depression for people, and that if my gp hadn't already told me to take a supplement, he would have.
