Lark, Eskie and Unaluna mention allergic reactions to the chemicals. That reminded me of a story I saw about Paulie Perette (sp?), the actress who plays Abby on NCIS. She has to dye her hair every couple of weeks for the show. Last fall she was rushed to the emergency room when she had an allergic reaction to using the dye so often. Maybe you could explore alternatives to dying your hair so often?
