The problem with psych med weight gain is that you could exercise 24 hours a day & eat nothing & still gain weight (that's an exaggeration), but the problem is that they do mess with the metabolism & sometimes nothing you do can counter the weight gain. I have a friend who struggles with that. No change in diet or change in activity have any effect on her ability to loose weight.
That is why it's so important for pdoc's to take that ALL into consideration with their treatment of their patients & not just give them meds because those are the ones used to treat the MI problem. We are all individuals with individual body reactions to meds & we need to be treated with that as a priority. Our physical reactions to the medications has a great effect on our mental state also on top of what's already going on & it ALL needs to be addressed by the pdoc.
