I didnt have a problem with switching in public per se. I switched but because thats how I always was since before I was 5 years old, switching was just my normal, like not switching is a non DID persons normal. I do have to say going to movies was a bit confusing because I would remember going to a movie but not watching the movie, or with those that I was co conscious with seeing the movie as though from a distance. I learned very young when others were discussing things I could not remember like family events or movies to just say wow i forgot about that (even normal people forget things lol) since I became DID before I was 5 it was just common knowledge that I was the one in the family that never remembered things (again treated like it was just normal for me to not remember things because thats how I always was and how everyone in my life always knew me to be, like my treatment provider told me nothnig changes after I got the diagnosis that wasnt already happening before I got the diagnosis. the label just put a name on what has been me all my life )

as an adult after diagnosis I learned what triggered my dissociation for example if battle scenes triggered me to dissociate I didnt want battle scenes. if eating oat meal triggered me into dissociating symptoms\problems I didnt eat oat meal. Instead i would go to movies that were not triggering to me and my internal system of alters, eat what wasnt triggering\causing me to dissociate. and learned how to take care of things that were triggering me that could not be avoided by using the grounding\breathing tools my treatment provider and I were working on.

you seem to know your system very well, maybe next time you want to see a movie you can find one that is less triggering and make an agreement with the others that if something is triggering the alters that its a trigger for wont watch it. a treatment provider can help you learn grounding and breathing that can also help, they can also help you to create a visualization of a safe meditation that will help the others while you are watching movies that trigger others in your internal system of alters.
