I find that regular/general docs treat those with MI very badly. I have a few examples.

I work for a cardiologist. I'm his assistant and see every patient with him. We have a computer in front of us where we can see there med list and list of other health problems. This one patient had bipolar, anxiety, depression listed along with a long list of psych meds. This pt was truly Ill and needed a heart cath procedure but the dr told him to go and get a second opinion instead of booking him. I was surprised. The dr never does this. The patient left the room and the dr said "let someone else deal with him. People with those kind of problems are the ones that sew you." I felt horrible for the patient. And about a wk ago a girl who was in all kinds of anxiety meds came in and all her tests were dangerously abnormal. She needed care ASAP. He sent her to the ER and called a different dr to treat her. And then said "that's a problem patient, on all kinds of meds". She was a sweet girl and I felt horrible for her.

Then the other day I went to urgent care because I felt funny. I was extremely cold and fatigued and wondered if it was my blood pressure because sometimes it gets dangerously low. Because I didn't want to get crapped on, I only named ativan as my med. But I think it still said BP in my chart from a previous visit. Now first off yes I do admit, I've said on this forum how I do have a history of abuse with my prescriptions sometimes but during this time I was days off of anything and sober. Anyways this dr was looking with his light into my eyes and asking me if I was on drugs. I felt like I was being interrogated. He said "well you take ativan so maybe that's why you're so fatigued". I said "I take them as needed and haven't needed them in days" which was the truth. He said "it's not possible you've abused any other drugs today?" I said "no" which was the truth. Then I said "look, I work long hours and it's hard for me to get through my days, I just want something for energy but nothing addictive". He said "are you asking for pain meds or stimulants that get you high?" I almost laughed. Wait I think I did laugh. Anyway I ended up having a ear infection and UTI I didn't know about. I didn't even want the antibiotics. I went home.

Another time I had to get blood work done at my Gyno to see why i wasn't having periods. I ended up having post pill amenorrhea from being on the pill for so long. But they had a complete list of all my meds and the dr said "now we'll see how bad all these psych meds screwed you up" in front of the workers and other patients and not in the room. Big no no. My blood work was fine.

This isn't the first time a dr has treated me like this, or refused to treat me because I was on psych meds. And I'm sure I'm not the only patient either.

Now I'm not saying ALL docs are like this. I've had some very kind ones that actually did take me seriously and treated me well even with my messy history.

Trileptal 600mg BID
Buspar 45mg
Seroquel 150-300mg for sleep
Ativan 1mg PRN

Risperdal 4-6mg PRN
