I have totally been there. While I don't have a boss that put the work on me, I do have a boss who creates drama and picks favorites. She will let people she likes take the day off just because. I work the front desk at a busy doctors office she had my coworker in her office for an hour and a half talking about her personal life when I had a line of patients out the door that needed checked in for their appointments!
I think it is ridiculous that you are in this position. I don't think you should give up hope just yet! Keep looking for jobs and keep applying! One of these days you will get a call!
