Comparison is the root of all inferiority. I forget where I heard that quote but it makes sense.

Also, big salary + big house does not necessarily mean a better life, despite how often American culture tells us it does. I've known a lot of people who are very happy despite being just above the poverty line, or very dissatisfied (and usually trying to hide that fact) despite making six figures. I myself have fallen into both of those categories at different times in my life.
