Yeah, humans are certainly not angels. We're basically just really smart monkeys. Like so many other animals, we feel close to our families and our "tribes" but we are territorial and we generally don't like strangers. Some degree of selfishness and xenophobia is in our DNA because those traits helped us survive in prehistoric times. Unfortunately because we're so smart, we are capable of building much more destructive weapons than teeth and claws.

Not all of us are too blinded by distractions, though. A lot of people are still really trying to help in whatever ways they can, even though the impact is usually only on a small scale. Have you tried volunteering? That might help you feel like you are making a difference.
