Voted today. We're essentially voting for a new government and Taoiseach but we have an odd way of doing it. You vote for local candidates in order of preference. So you put a 1, 2, 3.. and so on beside their names. If they belong to a party and that party gets a majority then their leader will become Taoiseach, or they have a choice to negotiate one. So you can't really directly vote for the country's new leader, like in the States with the presidential nominations. Backwards us as usual.
It's likely there'll be a hung Dail. Which unfortunately doesn't mean the government that are in at the moment will be taken out back of Leinster house and hung. It means two parties will refuse to go into a coalition together and we'll have to vote again, until we get it right.
