There are other resources as well besides government ones.

Salvation Army and Saint Vincent DePaul are two that come to mind. Here in my community they both help people with rent, heating bills, gas money, car repairs, etc., along with giving away food twice a week.

Catholic charities is another one. A social worker can guide you in finding those resources.
